With the launch of Red Jade Fortnite, players can take a breather from their daily grind, while the genre’s most prominent players, such as Destiny and World of Warcraft, return with new projects to explore.
But Red Jax, a real-time strategy game set in the Mojave Desert, also represents a major shift for the genre.
With the game’s release last month, Red Jades’ brand was a well-known name among MMO fans, and its success in building a strong fanbase has made it one of the most-visited online gaming sites in the world.
It’s also been an increasingly popular choice for the biggest stars to join the genre, with both Activision Blizzard and Sony looking to cash in on the rising popularity of the genre with their own releases.
Red JADE’s debut is just one of several recent games to debut in the genre and its rising popularity has brought the industry more than a few new competitors, according to industry veteran and former Activision Blizzard executive Bill Laidlaw.
“I think the biggest change in the last year has been the proliferation of MMOs,” Laidaw told TechCrunch.
“The genre has really exploded.
We have this new thing called the MMO, where there are so many different types of MMO games.
And when you look at the game numbers, they’re way outstripping any other type of MMO.”
Laidaws’ comments come as Red Jaded continues to grow, and with the genre set to continue to grow even more as the year approaches.
Last year, Blizzard released its new World of Warships game to the public, a game that many of the industry’s biggest names are now working on.
Activision Blizzard also launched Destiny 2: Forsaken, a massive expansion to the original game set on Pandora.
And recently, World of Tanks developer Epic Games released a new installment of the popular war game with the addition of the Chinese game of WoT.
While the genre continues to expand in new directions, it’s important to keep in mind that the rise of MMO gaming has had a direct impact on the genre itself, and that its popularity will only continue to rise.
“A lot of it is just people just getting bored of playing the same game,” Lattimore said.
“They want to play something different.
They want something different.”
Red Jasion will be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 13.
The game will also be available on Steam and on PlayStation Network, and it’ll be free for all.
Red Jade’s creator, Chris Johnson, told Tech Crunch that the company hopes that people will take it for what it is, and he said that he feels it has a great future ahead.
“I think it’s a really good time for this kind of genre, and there’s a lot of potential there,” Johnson said.
LaidAWS says that there are many players in the industry who are looking to expand on the game.
“We’re excited to see what the future holds,” Lettaw said.
