A 2-0 win over Bologna is a huge moment for Inter, and the Italian coach says it shows the club has finally found its stride.
It was Inter’s first win at the Stadio Olimpico since March 2017, and their first win over a Bolognese side since January.
They have now scored seven goals in their last four matches, and a 3-0 home win over Udinese in the league on Saturday saw them move up to fourth in the table.
Inter coach Rudi Garcia believes they have found the level of quality needed to compete at the top of Serie A and that it is now the team’s responsibility to show that level.
“We have to get results, but we also have to prove that we are not one of the worst teams in the division,” Garcia said.
“I think we are a very good team, but that is not our goal.
We have to show a level of consistency, and we need to score more goals.”
When we were winning in the first half, we scored four goals in the second half.
Now we need the players to be able to score.
“While Inter have a great chance of winning this game, it will be hard to deny that Bolognians goalkeeper Diego Simeone will be disappointed by his side’s performance in this one.
The first half saw a number of fouls, but Simeon managed to keep out a shot from Gianluigi Buffon, who has netted 10 goals in Serie A this season.
However, the visitors did put pressure on the goalkeeper and the goalkeeper made a couple of key saves to keep the game level.
The second half saw Bologni score twice, including on a header from Francesco Totti that ended up in the net.
The goal came just three minutes after a cross from Marco Fabian came back off the bar from inside the box, and Simeoni then came close to an equaliser himself.
With all of Bolognia’s goals coming in the last three games, Inter have to be satisfied with the way they scored in the opening 15 minutes.
Inter are currently sitting in eighth place in Serie B, but Garcia has no regrets about their recent form.”
I hope that we can go further.””
This is what we have shown in the previous games.
I hope that we can go further.”
Today we did not show the best quality, but I hope the team will show that we deserve to be in the top four.
